The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery held its 26th Annual Meeting

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery held its 26th Annual Meeting in Orlando Florida Jan 28-31st. At the meeting Dr Rose gave several lectures during the hair transplantation workshop. Dr Rose's topics included Donor Harvesting Techniques and Hairline Design. He also served on a panel discussing how physicians can enter the field of hair restoration and skills beginners need to obtain.

Dr Rose reviewed ways to plan out the donor area and ways to limit donor scarring with the "ledge" tricophytic closure. He also discussed the use of FIT/FUE to avoid a linear scar in the donor area and the value of FIT/FUE for patients with limited donor or candidates suitable for body hair transplantation. The advantages and disadvantages of strip harvesting versus FIT/FUE were covered.

In speaking on the characteristics of a natural hairline Dr Rose several characteristics of the normal hairline. These include undulation of the hairline, irregular irregularity of the spacing of follicular units, random hairs outside the hairline, variation of caliber of hairs, gradients of density, and ways to assure symmetry.
