Dr Rose recently returned from a trip to Paris, Milan and Athens where he gave several lectures. In Paris Dr Rose presented his work on the advances with the Rose Tissue Spreader. The RTS can be used in strip donor harvesting to aid in removing the tissue while minimizing any damage to the hair follicles. The new spreader had prongs that interdigitate to a greater degree and allow for the prongs to be inserted into a smaller width incision. The spreader also minimized bleeding as it separates the tissue and allows the surgeon to more readily see the vessels before cutting them.

Dr Rose also lectured on the continuing success of his LEDGE Closure technique. He differentiated this type of trocophytic closure from that of Dr Marzola and Dr Frechet. Dr Roses technique is performed with a scalpel as opposed to a scissor. The use of the scalpel give the surgeon an increased ability to select the follicles to be included or excluded in the tricophytic cut. The scalp also creates a true LEDGE as opposed to simply an angled cut or slope created by a scissor. Dr Rose also presented histologic sections that demonstrate that the cuts are not close to the hair growth centers or bulge area and the minimal trauma is created with the LEDGE closure.

In Milan Dr Rose presented his new SL or slotted punch for FIT/FUE cases. These punches have a slot that runs part of the distance of the punch. With this punch the initial cutting surface is decreased and it provides a way for the surgeon to better align the punch for insertion. These factors contribute to decreased transection.

The second lecture was a presentation of various templates that Dr Rose has created to assure symmetry in hairline design to allow the surgeon to assess the symmetry of the hairline during the case. These templates are moldable and were created from patients with typical hairline patterns. Dr Rose related that the surgeon must be aware of the facial characteristics of each patient in order to select the proper hairline design.

While at the meeting, Dr Rose was one of several physicians to receive the Caesar Award Crowning Achievement Award given by the Italian Hair Society for his contributions to hair restoration.

Dr Rose gave two lectures in Athens at the Aegean Masters Conference. His first lecture was on Considerations for a Natural Hairline. In this lecture he spoke about many of the points that he has made in previous articles and book chapters on hairline design. He stressed the use of undulation along the hairline, random hairs, proper caliber of hairs, density gradients and other factors in structuring a natural appearing hairline.

His second lecture covered the problems and solutions for problems associated with FIT/FUE. In this lecture he explained the complexities of FIT and how the surgeon can avoid various problems.

Dr Rose was again honored at the meeting and was among several physicians to receive theFeidias Award. This award is named for ancient Greek sculptor Feidias who created a famous statue of Zeus as well as many other statues.
